Core Therapy Groups

Weekly, one-hour groups led by a licensed clinician.
At New Directions, we offer a range of trauma-informed, evidence-based clinical treatment options and curricula designed to meet the unique needs of every individual on their recovery journey.
We know that engaging in therapy is one of the most important steps in recovery. Our clinicians are trained in motivational interviewing and understand the stages of change, helping each person move forward at their own pace.

Positive Parenting™ and Partner in Parenting

Based on the curriculum from the Texas Institute for Behavioral Health, the Positive Parenting™ group focuses on building nurturing, supportive relationships between parents and their children. Participants learn strategies for creating a home environment that promotes learning, emotional development, and healthy communication, which are skills that became especially valuable during the COVID pandemic.
Also from the Texas Institute for Behavioral Health, this interactive 8-week program allows parents to practice parenting skills, apply strategies, and share experiences with others in recovery. Structured sessions include worksheets and guided discussions designed to strengthen parenting confidence and foster peer support.

Partner in Parenting Program

Relapse Prevention

Using the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) framework, this group explores the automatic thoughts and patterns that can lead to cravings and relapse. Participants gain practical tools to manage urges, challenge negative thinking, and build a balanced, sustainable recovery.

Psychoeducation on Alcohol and Other Drugs

This educational group provides information about substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and the impact of addiction. Drawing from the TCU Core Form Matrix, the group empowers participants with knowledge and insight to support their recovery.
